10 - 26 February 2015 - Eyre Peninsula
Camping at Fitzgerald Bay
At Cowell Ali met Barb who is an artist and volunteers at the information centre. Barb asked Ali if she would like to paint with her and get a little instruction - very kind!
We camped at Port Gibbon for the night, went for a walk over the dunes and came across a few seals!
We camped at Lipson Cove for two nights and swam with the dolphins - another beautiful spot with very few people and even less facilities but we are now getting in the swing of free camping and conserving water.
At Port Lincoln we traveled the Whalers Way with our new friends we met at Lipson Cove - Darren, Peta, James and Sarah
We camped for a night at Donington Beach in the Lincoln National Park - check the sweet site we had the van in!
We stayed a few nights in Coffin Bay National Park
Elliston is a quaint town with some interesting art around its district. Renowned Blackfellas surf break is nearby. I'm not sure the waves are worth the White Pointer risk! We passed by Murphy's Haystacks and camped for a night at Walkers Rocks.
We camped at Speed Point near Streaky Bay for a few nights. Another top camp site overlooking the bay towards a settlement called Fisherman's Paradise. A spear fisherman camping neighbour kindly gave us four fish (not sure what they were but were similar to snapper) which fed us for two days!
At Streaky Bay they have a model of the biggest shark ever caught, although it was not officially a World Record. It was disallowed because the bait used was allegedly a seal pup! We did however have a coffee with the daughter of the fisherman who caught the shark. According to her, her Father was the innocent victim of sabotage by a jealous local. Only the players really know what happened, but it makes for a great controversy that has polarised a small community.
Best tour yet - Baird Bay swim with the Sea Lions
Fowlers Bay - almost at the edge of the Nullabor.
We went for a drive along a rough coastal track to see another seal colony and more ruggedly beautiful coastline.
